A young girl, who was vacationing with her family, is currently in critical condition at a hospital after allegedly being left alone in a hotel pool in Rhodes.
Authorities reported that the child was discovered around noon at a hotel in Lardos on the Greek island. Surveillance footage showed the toddler entering the pool unaccompanied, and shortly after, a bystander noticed the child in the water.
A woman, believed to be a British doctor, intervened, pulled the three-year-old out of the water, and administered CPR until emergency services arrived. Medical professionals tried to stabilize the girl before transferring her to Rhodes Hospital in a serious condition.
Following this, she was airlifted to the University Hospital in Heraklion, Crete, where neurosurgeons conducted a procedure to alleviate pressure on her brain. She is currently under intensive care at the hospital.
Rhodes police reported that the girl’s uncle, who was responsible for supervising her, and the hotel’s travel agency manager, accountable for guest safety, were apprehended two hours later. They have been formally charged after appearing before the Rhodes District Court Prosecutor.
Director Michalis Sokorelos of Rhodes Hospital mentioned that the child had been in the water for an extended period and showed no signs of response upon arrival.
The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office is providing assistance to the family of the girl and is coordinating with Greek authorities.
