A teenager was severely injured in a fire incident believed to be linked to an ongoing feud between two families in a small town. Jacob Thompson, 19, suffered burns covering 32 percent of his body, including third-degree burns on his face, torso, arms, back, and legs after being set alight on Cowper Street in Coonabarabran, Australia. Witnesses reported that he was doused with a liquid by a group of individuals before catching fire and was later taken to intensive care after bystanders intervened to extinguish the flames.
Authorities suspect that the tragic incident was a result of a feud between local families in the rural Australian community. According to New South Wales Police, it is believed that Jacob was targeted due to this ongoing dispute. Aaron Valette, 19, reportedly threatened Jacob with burning while holding a plastic bottle containing an unknown substance. Valette allegedly threw the liquid at Jacob, setting him on fire. Following the incident, Jacob’s family left Coonabarabran out of safety concerns and have been supporting him at Concord Hospital in Sydney, where he was airlifted for treatment.
Jacob sustained severe injuries, requiring him to be placed in an induced coma on life support due to the extent of his burns and airway damage. His family described the incident as deeply traumatic, leaving both physical and emotional scars that will take time to heal. Despite the challenges, Jacob’s family mentioned that he has shown signs of improvement, although he still faces difficulties with breathing, eye injuries, and a dislocated shoulder that require ongoing medical attention.

Police apprehended Aaron Valette, Mavis Chatfield, 45, and a 17-year-old girl at a nearby location following the incident. Valette was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and affray, while Chatfield faced charges of affray. Both individuals were denied bail, while the teenage girl was released pending further investigation.
