“Mother Faces Charges for Killing Two Infants”

Published:

A 21-year-old mother is facing charges of killing her two infants within a span of three years and displaying a dismissive attitude when authorities arrived at her residence.

On November 20, Dakota Taylor, 21, was taken into custody as part of an inquiry into the passing of her eight-month-old son, Caleb, who died in Jefferson County, Georgia, in January 2025. The infant was discovered unresponsive at a residence in Matthews and was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) disclosed that at the time of her recent arrest, Taylor was already detained at McDuffie County Jail regarding the death of another child, seven-month-old Micah, in September 2021.

As per a grand jury warrant from 14 News, Taylor was alleged to have caused Micah’s demise by deliberately obstructing the child’s airways with malicious intent. Initially, the cause of death for the infant had been undetermined.

It has now emerged that Taylor and Micah were residing in a group home when the tragic incident occurred. Detectives noted Taylor’s unusual behavior while medical procedures were being performed on the baby and during his ambulance transfer, as reported by WRDW.

Bodycam footage from the police revealed an officer commenting on Taylor’s indifferent response to the situation, with another officer describing her demeanor as nonchalant. Taylor had been under the supervision of the Georgia Department of Child and Family Services during the prolonged investigation period.

The arrest affidavit indicates that on January 8 of the same year, Taylor allegedly caused Caleb’s death by depriving him of oxygen and inflicting excessive physical and mental anguish on the infant.

Following inquiries into both infant deaths, Taylor was apprehended and charged with two counts each of malice murder, felony murder, and cruelty to children. Her court appearance is scheduled for February 11.

The GBI released a statement affirming Taylor’s arrest for charges of Malice Murder, Felony Murder, and First-Degree Cruelty to Children. The agency was called in by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the infant’s death in Matthews, Georgia.

Taylor was taken into custody on November 20, 2025, while already detained at McDuffie County Jail on separate charges related to another child’s death investigation in DeKalb County, Georgia.

The investigation is ongoing, and individuals with relevant information are urged to contact the GBI’s Regional Investigative Office in Thomson or submit anonymous tips through various channels provided by the agency.
