A man convicted of stabbing his girlfriend to death was sentenced to life in prison after a court hearing where he shouted derogatory terms at the victim. Michael Ormandy, aged 34, received the life sentence for the murder of Rebekah Campbell, 32, at her residence in Huyton, Merseyside, on April 15. Following the attack, Rebekah suffered 18 stab wounds and nine additional slashes with a knife, leading to her collapse outside her apartment covered in blood.
During the assault, Rebekah reportedly pleaded for Ormandy to leave as he entered her home uninvited wearing a bulletproof vest. Despite claiming self-defense, Ormandy sustained only a minor hand injury during the altercation, which required minimal hospital treatment. Prior to the fatal incident, Ormandy had physically assaulted his partner, giving her a black eye, and engaged in sexual activities with another woman.
Rebekah’s mother, Deborah Woolerton, expressed profound grief and shared fond memories of her daughter during a statement read at the court hearing. Ormandy, who had a history of violence and a tattoo reading “The Hitman” on his neck, made false claims to authorities after the incident, including threats of violence and denial of responsibility for Rebekah’s death.
In response to the sentencing, Detective Superintendent Ben Dyer of Merseyside Police emphasized the community’s safety with Ormandy’s imprisonment, condemning his attempts to portray himself as a victim. Despite Ormandy’s denial of guilt, the jury found him guilty based on overwhelming evidence, bringing some solace to Rebekah’s family and friends as they mourn her tragic loss.
