Published:

Anthony Joshua made a somber visit to a funeral home to pay his respects to Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele after being released from the hospital. Joshua sustained minor injuries in a car accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, resulting in the tragic loss of his two close friends.

The British boxer has been discharged from the hospital in Lagos and will now focus on his recovery at his home in Nigeria. Prior to that, he accompanied his mother to the funeral home where the bodies of Ghami and Ayodele are being kept.

A statement from local authorities expressed condolences to the families of the deceased, emphasizing the tragic nature of the accident that occurred on December 29, 2025. They extended prayers for the souls of the departed and strength for their grieving loved ones.

Despite his heavy heart, Joshua was deemed fit for home recuperation. He and his mother visited the funeral home in Lagos to bid farewell to their late friends before their repatriation. The Governors of Ogun State and Lagos State acknowledged the outpouring of support and thanked the medical team at Lagoon Hospital Ikoyi for their care.

The fatal crash took place while Joshua was traveling in a black SUV that collided with a stationary truck, resulting in the deaths of his friends. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities searching for the truck driver who was illegally parked on the highway shoulder at the time of the accident.

Following his hospital discharge, the SUV driver provided a statement to the police. Preliminary findings suggest overspeeding and a burst tire on the passenger side contributed to the accident. The impact caused the vehicle to lose control and collide with the parked truck due to excessive speed.
