The incident took place at the MGM National Harbor Hotel & Casino in Oxon Hill, Maryland, with Prince George’s County Fire and Rescue responding around 12:20 pm local time. According to George Nader, the chief of police in Prince George’s County, the victim was targeted while ordering food, with the suspect immediately opening fire before fleeing in a vehicle. As a precaution, the area was put on lockdown, including some nearby schools, although the suspect is not believed to be on foot in the community.
During a media briefing, Chief Nader disclosed that the victim, a male in his twenties, was specifically targeted rather than being a random victim. The food court within the casino was the only affected area, and the rest of the hotel and casino remains open to the public.
