A flamingo named Frankie, who escaped from Paradise Park in Cornwall, surprised caretakers by traveling over 100 miles to France. The bird, known for her adventurous spirit, managed to reach the coast of Brittany, much to the amazement and relief of sanctuary staff who found her in good health.
Despite having her feathers clipped to prevent long flights, Frankie made her daring escape on November 2, briefly returning to Hayle before being spotted near Porthtowan. A week later, reports emerged of Frankie being sighted in north-west France with minor injuries, identified by her clipped wing feathers.
Paradise Park shared the news on social media, expressing astonishment at Frankie’s long journey and gratitude for her well-being. While acknowledging flamingos’ ability to cover such distances, they marveled at Frankie’s feat and hoped she would thrive in her newfound habitat in France.
The park acknowledged the slim chances of bringing Frankie back to the UK, with the director, Nick Reynolds, considering it a challenging task. He mentioned the possibility of Frankie integrating with a greater flamingo colony in south-west France, viewing it as the best outcome for the beloved bird.
The team at Paradise Park continues to monitor Frankie’s situation, hoping for the best for her future in France.
