“Tesco Plans to Extend Clubcard Membership to Under-18s”

Published:

Tesco is currently in the process of reviewing a potential significant alteration to its Clubcard program. The Clubcard initiative by Tesco offers discounted prices on selected items at its stores and enables customers to accumulate points that can be converted into supermarket vouchers.

Until now, the Clubcard scheme has been exclusive to individuals aged 18 and above, a policy criticized by Which? as unfair to younger consumers, potentially hindering their ability to save money. However, Tesco has officially announced its plans to extend Clubcard membership to individuals under the age of 18 within the current year.

A spokesperson from Tesco stated, “We are actively reassessing Tesco Clubcard with the aim of introducing Clubcard membership to under-18s this year.” Reacting to this development, Reena Sewraz, Retail Editor at Which?, emphasized the significance of access to Tesco Clubcard for shoppers, particularly those facing financial challenges.

Tesco customers earn one Clubcard point for every £1 spent on groceries both in-store and online, or for every two liters of fuel purchased at Tesco petrol stations. This loyalty program has been a valuable tool for saving money for many shoppers.

In another development, Nationwide Building Society has announced its decision to permit electronic signing of mortgage deeds in England and Wales without the need for a witness. This move, enabled by qualified electronic signature technology, follows the Land Registry’s decision to accept electronic signatures as part of the mortgage application process. Nationwide anticipates that this change will streamline the home-buying process for its customers.

Moreover, millions of individuals under the age of 66 have been advised to prepare for an upcoming increase in the state pension age. The current state pension age of 66 is scheduled to rise to 67, with the transition set to take place gradually between April 6, 2026, and March 6, 2028. The first cohort affected by this change are those born between April 6, 1960, and May 5, 1960.

Asda, on the other hand, faced a £500,000 fine for selling expired food items at one of its UK supermarket locations. Following an investigation by the Barnsley Council Trading Standards team, it was revealed that products, including hummus, pizzas, and curries, were being sold past their expiration dates. Asda admitted to five offenses under the Food Safety Act and has since implemented new date checking procedures across its stores.

Lastly, grandparents who provide childcare assistance during the February half-term could potentially enhance their state pension by £6,600 through Specified Adult Childcare Credits. These National Insurance Credits serve to fill gaps in an individual’s National Insurance record and can significantly boost state pension income over time.
