The Ottawa Rapid have appointed Carmelina Moscato, a former Canadian national team defender, as their new head coach for the upcoming season. This decision comes after current head coach Katrine Pedersen revealed her departure from the Northern Super League-leading team at the season’s end.
Moscato, a distinguished member of the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame, boasts an impressive career that includes three Women’s World Cup appearances and a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics. Her coaching experience spans across various countries, including Denmark, Mexico, and most recently, Saudi Arabia.
The Rapid have signed Moscato on a two-season contract, with her responsibilities starting immediately to prepare for the upcoming 2027 season, focusing on player recruitment and team development.
Team CEO Thomas Gilbert expressed confidence in Moscato’s leadership abilities, coaching expertise, and profound understanding of Canadian soccer. Moscato, in turn, expressed enthusiasm about joining the Rapid and building on the team’s solid foundation to create an environment where players can excel, grow, and compete at the highest levels.
Currently leading the NSL standings with 10 victories in 15 matches, Ottawa is set to play their next game in Calgary on Saturday at 4 p.m., which will be broadcast live on CBC Gem.
