Elliot Page Reveals Post-‘Odyssey’ Casting Struggles

Published:

In recent months, there has been much discussion surrounding Elliot Page’s standout performance in Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey. Despite the acclaim, Page revealed in a recent podcast interview that he has not been inundated with casting opportunities following the success of the film.

During an appearance on the podcast On Film… With Kevin McCarthy, Page shared that he has not received a flood of offers despite his role as the Greek soldier Sinon in The Odyssey, where he delivered a memorable performance. Addressing the lack of post-movie offers, Page humorously mentioned his Canadian background and the misconceptions surrounding it.

The actor, known for his roles in acclaimed films like Juno, Inception, and Hard Candy, has been vocal about LGBTQ+ rights and issues. Page came out as transgender in 2020 and has actively advocated against anti-2SLGBTQ+ rhetoric and discriminatory policies. He emphasized the importance of authenticity and acceptance in a 2023 interview, stating that trans individuals simply want to live authentically.

Despite the success of The Odyssey, Page’s experience mirrors that of his co-star Samantha Morton, who portrayed Circe in the film and also expressed challenges in securing new roles post-release. Morton highlighted the changing dynamics of the industry and the competitive landscape for actors, acknowledging the impact of industry politics on casting decisions.

In the podcast interview, Page expressed his eagerness to continue pursuing diverse roles and noted the newfound confidence he has in his craft post-transition. Reflecting on his journey, he highlighted the personal growth and artistic fulfillment he has experienced, particularly comparing his experiences on Inception to his recent work with Nolan on The Odyssey.

As Page navigates the post-film landscape, his dedication to authentic storytelling and representation remains unwavering, positioning him as a prominent voice in advocating for inclusivity and diversity in the entertainment industry.
