After over ten years of conducting interviews and engaging in light-hearted conversations with film stars, musicians, and athletes over some fried chicken, Amelia Dimoldenberg, the host of the widely-watched YouTube talk show called “Chicken Shop Date,” revealed this week that she is bringing the show to a close.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, Dimoldenberg shared her sentiments about the show, describing it as her personal romantic comedy where she crafted numerous entertaining stories for her audience. Expressing gratitude to her followers for joining her on this journey and finding joy in the episodes, she acknowledged that while she never anticipated ending “Chicken Shop Date,” she now feels ready to embark on a new adventure.
Commencing the show 12 years ago by interviewing musicians within the UK’s underground rap scene, Dimoldenberg expanded her reach to converse with celebrities like Keke Palmer, Conan O’Brien, Paul McCartney, and Jack Harlow. Her YouTube channel amassed nearly 3.5 million subscribers.
“Chicken Shop Date” features Dimoldenberg having casual encounters with celebrities at a fried chicken shop in London, asking them a mix of flirtatious, humorous, and occasionally awkward questions. The dynamic often mirrors first-date banter rather than conventional talk show interviews, occasionally leading to playful moments, as seen in her interaction with Andrew Garfield in 2024.
Among her numerous interviews, Dimoldenberg also engaged with Canadians like Ryan Reynolds, where she corrected him on his wife Blake Lively’s character name from “Gossip Girl.” Shania Twain, in her 2023 appearance, disclosed that she had never met Brad Pitt despite referencing him in her song “That Don’t Impress Me Much.”
The popularity of her YouTube channel opened doors for Dimoldenberg beyond the chicken shop setting, including covering the Oscars red carpet this year where she interviewed Canadian talent Hudson Williams. While her future plans post-“Chicken Shop Date” remain undisclosed, she is reportedly working on a young adult drama series for the BBC.
In her farewell message on Instagram, Dimoldenberg hinted at a few final episodes before bidding adieu to the show permanently.
