Brighton & Hove Albion has secured the services of Promise David for the upcoming Premier League season. The Canadian striker will join the team on a season-long loan from Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, with an obligation to purchase him for a reported fee of $29.7 million US upon meeting certain criteria.
Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed that David will be moving to the Premier League starting from the next season for a record fee for the Belgian club. David, who scored 41 goals in 82 matches during his two seasons at Union, played a key role in the club’s first league title victory in 90 years in 2025. He extended his contract with the club through June 2029.
The 25-year-old striker, who hails from Brampton, Ontario, represented Canada at the recent World Cup, scoring a goal despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. With four goals in 14 appearances for the Canadian national team, David previously played for Nigeria’s under-23 side before switching his allegiance to Canada in 2025.
Having plied his trade in Croatia, Malta, and Estonia before moving to Belgium in July 2024, David brings a wealth of experience to Brighton. Mike Cave, Brighton’s sporting director, expressed excitement about David’s arrival, highlighting his goal-scoring ability, physical attributes, and international experience. Brighton, which finished eighth in the Premier League last season, looks forward to David’s contribution as he enters his prime playing years.
