“Ferry fall father’s remains recovered months later”

Published:

The remains of a father who fell from a ferry on Father’s Day have been recovered over four months after the incident. Mark Federspiel went overboard on June 15 while traveling from Gourock to Dunoon in Scotland with his wife, Annette, to visit their daughter Lara for Father’s Day.

Mark, a 64-year-old US Navy diver, was not seen falling into the water, and there were no CCTV images capturing the incident. Annette raised the alarm when Mark did not return from the bathroom.

Despite an extensive search involving HM Coastguard, RNLI, Police Scotland, and other agencies, Mark was not found. However, his body was later found on Kilcreggan Beach on October 12.

Authorities have confirmed that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding Mark’s death. Mark, who was known as “Mark the Shark” during his career as a Navy diver, had been undergoing treatment for leukemia, which affected his balance.

Annette expressed her heartbreak over the loss of her husband, emphasizing the difficulty of not having closure. The couple had recently moved to Dunoon and were looking forward to retirement in Scotland.

Annette paid tribute to Mark on Facebook before his body was discovered, describing him as her soul mate and a kind hero. She vowed to never stop searching for him.
