A woman sentenced to 50 years in prison for fatally poisoning her long-term boyfriend with eye drops is expected to spend the rest of her life behind bars as her deceitful actions have been uncovered.
Marcy L. Oglesby, aged 53, has been incarcerated for the deliberate killing of her partner, Richard “Rick” Young, a former police chief, whom she poisoned over an extended period before hiding his body in a storage unit.
Following a tumultuous legal process that commenced after the death of Young in the fall of 2021, Oglesby was found guilty of murder and aggravated battery, receiving a 50-year prison sentence with credit for time served in pretrial detention.
The shocking revelation of Young’s remains in a storage unit leased by Oglesby in Maquon, Illinois, on October 7, 2022, marked a significant development in the case, which initially faced obstacles that threatened its progression.
Initially charged with concealing a non-homicidal death upon her arrest, the legal proceedings were complicated by subsequent upgrades and dismissals of charges before finally leading to a conviction due to insufficient evidence.
Further investigation revealed that Oglesby had poisoned Young’s food and coffee over a year with eye drops and crushed medication, causing his death. Subsequent toxicology reports confirmed the presence of tetrahydrozoline, a component found in common eye drops, in Young’s body.
Oglesby’s attempt to cover up the crime by claiming Young died of Covid was debunked with evidence of eye drop bottles found in their home, ultimately leading to her conviction after a bench trial where she maintained her innocence but was found guilty.
Despite her denial during sentencing, the court ruled against her, emphasizing the severity of her actions that led to the death of her boyfriend, ensuring that justice was served for the victim and holding the perpetrator accountable for her crime.
