Girl, 5, Survives 50-Foot Fall from Disney Cruise

Published:

A young girl, aged five, accidentally fell 50 feet from a Disney Cruise ship after being positioned in front of an open porthole, as reported by authorities. The incident occurred while the girl, accompanied by her parents, was onboard the Disney Dream cruise ship. Contrary to false rumors, it was clarified that the girl fell into the sea after being directed to stand near the railing by her mother.

Following the fall, a mayday call was made, and a rescue boat was swiftly dispatched within three minutes. Fortunately, the girl sustained no major injuries, while her father received medical attention for an undisclosed concern.

Although initial criminal charges were suggested against the mother, the incident on June 29 was determined not to constitute “criminal culpable negligence,” leading to the decision by Florida’s state attorney not to pursue prosecution. State attorney Melissa Kelly stated on September 16 that while the mother’s actions were arguably negligent and irresponsible, they did not meet the threshold for criminal negligence.

The parents cooperated with authorities and provided consistent accounts that matched the security camera footage, resulting in the closure of the case. The mother reportedly admitted to taking multiple photos of her daughter near the ship’s railings during the trip, including one where the girl was depicted near a porthole with a window.

Allegedly, the mother expressed concern about the lack of coverings on the windows and attributed responsibility to Disney for the incident. Efforts to obtain a response from Disney Cruises regarding the situation are ongoing.
