“British Airways to Offer Free Starlink Wi-Fi on Flights”

Published:

British Airways has announced a significant update regarding its in-flight Wi-Fi services. The airline will provide complimentary onboard Wi-Fi capable of supporting video streaming, following a partnership between its parent company and Elon Musk’s Starlink.

The airline confirmed plans to introduce this technology on its services starting next year as part of a comprehensive £7 billion transformation initiative. Through an agreement with Starlink, over 500 aircraft in British Airways’ fleet will soon offer internet access to passengers.

Starlink, a satellite-based system owned by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, will enable British Airways passengers to access complimentary Wi-Fi in any cabin without requiring a special login. Currently, the airline offers limited Wi-Fi services, ranging from text-based messaging for loyalty members to paid packages allowing for music and video streaming.

Sean Doyle, British Airways’ chief executive, emphasized the focus on enhancing customer experience by introducing Starlink on both short-haul and long-haul aircraft. This move aims to set British Airways apart from competitors by providing fast and reliable internet connectivity throughout flights.

The new Starlink partnership follows British Airways’ recent announcement of a new transatlantic route connecting London Heathrow to St Louis. Scheduled to commence on April 19, 2026, the direct service to St Louis, known for its iconic Gateway Arch and vibrant culture, will operate four times weekly during the summer months.

Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, highlighted the significance of adding St Louis to the airline’s US network, emphasizing the city’s historical importance and diverse attractions. With this new route, British Airways will become the sole UK carrier offering direct flights to St. Louis, marking its 27th destination in the United States.
