After feeling stuck in a rut nearly four years ago, Sokvin Vann found solace in her passion for K-pop and BTS, a popular South Korean boy band. Encouraged by her brother, Vann established BTS Army Toronto, a local fan club that organizes events, meet-ups, giveaways, and fundraisers to unite fans of the band.
Despite facing personal tragedy with her brother’s passing, Vann persevered and grew the fan club into a thriving community. Now, as BTS prepares to return to Toronto after more than a decade, BTS Army Toronto, co-led by Vann and her son Jordan, is eagerly anticipating the upcoming concerts at Rogers Stadium.
The City of Toronto recently honored BTS by renaming a section of Yonge Street as BTS Boulevard, adorned with red designs inspired by the band’s tour branding. Additionally, the city declared the weekend of the concerts as BTS Weekend and lit up the Toronto sign in purple, a color associated with BTS and its devoted fan base.
Known for their meaningful music addressing various topics, BTS has garnered a dedicated following worldwide. Vann, a real estate agent who co-founded Idol Konnect to support K-pop artists, lauds BTS for creating music that makes a positive impact on listeners’ lives.
With BTS making their only Canadian tour stop in Toronto, fans like Vann and Aira Uy are excited for the long-awaited concerts. As the anticipation grows, BTS Army Toronto is gearing up to engage fans with activities at the Toronto Korean Festival and near the concert venue.
