A deceitful couple has been found guilty for orchestrating a phony home showing to trap an estate agent who was later abducted and discovered deceased in an alleyway.
Akeem Wiggins and Elsa Segura were convicted of enticing Monique Baugh, 28, to a property viewing on Maple Grove, Minnesota, on December 31, 2019. Upon her arrival, she was kidnapped by two individuals, forced into a U-haul, and tragically found dead in an alleyway with her hands bound with duct tape after being shot by her abductors.
Following a retrial, Wiggins has been convicted on numerous charges, including aiding and abetting first-degree murder and aiding and abetting murder with kidnapping. Segura, who was in a relationship with Wiggins at the time of the incident, pleaded guilty to kidnapping to cause severe bodily harm in 2024. Additional defendants, Cedric Berry and Berry Davis, were previously convicted in 2021 for similar charges.
Wiggins, Berry, and Davis were sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, while Segura received a 240-month jail term. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty expressed sympathy for Monique Baugh’s family and commended the jury for their service and the trial team for securing the convictions.
