“Daughter Jailed for Mother’s Neglectful Death”

Published:

A heartless woman has been imprisoned for neglecting her vulnerable, disabled mother, leading to her tragic death in appalling conditions. Colleen Sayegh, 38, admitted to failing in the care of her dependent mother and received a sentence ranging from 15 months to eight years behind bars.

Authorities discovered Sayegh’s mother in a Pennsylvania residence in a critical state on July 19, 2022, with severe open wounds and dehydration, along with extremely low blood pressure. The victim, a wheelchair user, was found with festering wounds, feces, and urine, indicating prolonged neglect. Tragically, she passed away two days after being found by the police.

Upon investigation, it was revealed that the victim, who had become wheelchair-bound following a stroke, had not received proper care for months, including lack of bathing and medical attention. An autopsy confirmed that the cause of death was sepsis resulting from a skin infection likely due to the unsanitary conditions she was living in.

During the sentencing, Sayegh claimed her mother refused treatment, but the judge rebuked her actions as selfish and inhumane. The judge emphasized that Sayegh prioritized her own needs over her mother’s well-being, leading to a preventable tragedy. Despite the sentencing of 15 months to eight years, public outrage persists over the perceived leniency of the punishment.

Commenting on the case, a reader expressed disbelief at Sayegh’s lack of remorse, highlighting the severity of her actions. Amidst the outcry, concerns are raised about the adequacy of the sentence in light of the heinous neglect that led to a vulnerable individual’s untimely death.
