An Englishman is currently receiving medical treatment in Spain after an alleged attack involving a screwdriver by a passerby who demanded a cigarette from him, which he refused to provide.
The victim, known to authorities as a Scottish national, suffered a punctured lung during the incident that occurred at Plaza de Ayuntamiento in the heart of Valencia around 4 am on Saturday. Reports suggest a 45-year-old man, with a history of criminal activities, was apprehended at the scene in connection with the assault.
Following the sound of a woman’s cries, two police officers were alerted by a passing patrol. The woman, a citizen of Uruguay, was with the Scottish victim at the time of the purported attack. She informed the authorities that the assailant approached the victim requesting a cigarette, and upon refusal, allegedly stabbed him with a screwdriver.
The suspect, described by the newspaper Las Provincias as having mental health issues, was taken into custody, while the victim was admitted to Doctor Peset University Hospital in Valencia. The victim’s current medical condition remains undisclosed.
This incident occurred around the same time as another event where a man was inexplicably stabbed in the neck at Palma Airport in Mallorca back in May.
According to Spanish authorities, the victim, a man in his twenties, was attacked while waiting for a friend to arrive at the airport. The assault was described as vicious and seemingly without motive. The victim was approached by an individual who inquired about his phone, and in the confusion, the attacker swiftly produced a knife and stabbed him in the neck.
Local reports indicate that a suspect was promptly detained within the airport premises following the incident, while the victim received immediate medical attention from a SAMU 061 ambulance. After stabilization by medical personnel, the victim was transferred to a hospital for specialized care.
A reliable source later disclosed that the attacker claimed to have no recollection of the event. The source stated, “The arrested individual has no memory of the incident. Allegedly, he became agitated after realizing his phone was missing while rummaging through his bag at the airport. Mistakenly, he approached the first person he saw to inquire about his phone, assuming it was his.”
It was reported that the suspect was among the homeless individuals at Palma Airport. The victim, an Argentine resident on the island, had gone to pick up a family member and had no prior acquaintance with the individual who nearly took his life.
