“Ex-Partner Attacks Woman with Knife: Survivor Shares Story”

Published:

A woman recorded the shocking incident where her former partner attacked her with a knife as she was leaving for work. Rosie Niessen, 28, was ambushed by her ex-partner, Simon Scrimshaw, 50, who slashed her throat and inflicted severe injuries on her face, neck, and hands. Rosie’s father, Roberto Niessen, 55, intervened upon hearing her screams but also got injured in the process.

Scrimshaw was convicted of attempted murder and causing grievous bodily harm in January 2024, receiving a 28-year prison sentence from Nottingham Crown Court. Rosie, now residing in Hucknall and unemployed, recounted the harrowing experience of the attack, expressing disbelief at the viciousness of the assault.

The tumultuous relationship between Rosie and Scrimshaw began in 2017, leading to the birth of their daughter. Despite their initial separation, they reconciled in 2018 before Rosie eventually ended the relationship in 2022. Just before the attack, a court order was sought by Rosie to keep Scrimshaw away from her, indicating the escalating tension between them.

Following the assault, Rosie struggled with the aftermath both physically and emotionally, preventing her from returning to work. Despite the challenges, she aims to raise awareness about domestic violence and inspire other victims to stay strong and seek help. The court imposed a lifelong restraining order on Scrimshaw, prohibiting any contact with Rosie, who continues to cope with the trauma and hopes for a brighter future.
