Despite his attempt to address concerns about his national security stance, Farage has been questioned for praising Putin and suggesting that the West provoked the Ukraine war. He now advocates for shooting down Russian jets in NATO airspace and using frozen Russian assets to aid Ukraine.
Farage emphasized that Putin is not rational and labeled him a “very bad dude.” He expressed disappointment in the lack of progress in negotiations with Putin, comparing it to recent compromises in other conflicts.
Following a scandal involving a former party member admitting to accepting bribes for pro-Russian statements, Farage defended Reform UK, stating it was an isolated incident. However, his critics, including Labour chair Anna Turley and Keir Starmer, continue to question his allegiance and trustworthiness.
Farage’s past admiration for Putin, as revealed in a 2014 interview, has fueled suspicions about his views on the Russian leader. Defence Secretary John Healey has warned against trusting Farage and his party with national security, citing their admiration for Putin.
