Meghan Markle appears to have a successful life with a thriving business, a devoted husband, two lovely children, and a stunning mansion in California.
However, her stepmother, Roslyn Markle, has shed light on why Meghan is distant from certain family members. Prince Harry’s comment in a BBC Radio 4 interview in 2017, where he referred to the royals as “the family she never had,” stirred controversy among Meghan’s relatives.
This statement came after Meghan’s Christmas festivities with the Royal Family at Sandringham in Norfolk, England. Meghan’s brother, Thomas Markle Jr, defended her, stating that she had a great family and everything she desired.
Roslyn, who was married to Meghan’s father in the 1960s, shared her insights on Meghan’s family situation in a 2017 interview with Radar Online, emphasizing that distance rather than tension was the primary reason for their estrangement.
She explained that Meghan’s busy schedule, including attending Northwestern in Illinois, working in Argentina, and starting her acting career with “Suits,” contributed to the family’s distance over time.
While Roslyn defended Meghan, stating that Meghan did not intentionally exclude her family, she did admit to not having extensive communication with her estranged sister, Samantha Grant. Samantha, who previously highlighted Meghan’s supportive “large family,” dismissed Roslyn’s statements on Twitter.
Samantha labeled Roslyn as having no relation to Meghan and criticized her comments, indicating that Roslyn’s knowledge of Meghan was solely based on media reports.
Meghan’s potential to establish a strong brand with her lifestyle project, As Ever, was speculated after she was seen socializing with PR mogul Emma Grede. The Duchess of Sussex attended a dinner hosted by Grede, known for her work with Kim Kardashian’s Skims brand and Khloe Kardashian’s Good American apparel line.
Grede shared images and videos from the event on her Instagram, emphasizing women empowering each other and getting things done. The evening featured Meghan’s wine, the 2024 As Ever Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
