Expressing strong criticism towards tech moguls Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, Vince highlighted their unrestricted influence on young individuals.
Responding to parents’ primary concerns, the Ecotricity founder introduced a mobile plan that enables children to make unlimited calls and send texts without internet access.
Citing the exposure of children to harmful online content, millionaire Vince emphasized the necessity of a traditional communication approach and called for government intervention.
This move follows mounting pressure on the authorities to implement a ban on social media access for individuals under 16 years old.
Last month, over 60 Labour MPs urged Prime Minister Keir Starmer to consider emulating Australia’s ban on underage social media usage, with several other nations also contemplating similar measures.
Vince, known for the Ecotalk initiative, which utilizes EE’s mobile network to finance ecological projects, recently launched a new SIM-only plan called Just Talk, offering unlimited calls and texts starting at £4 per month, with no internet capabilities.
Emphasizing the need to limit the influence of tech giants on children, Vince stated that the Just Talk tariff was designed to fulfill customers’ demands, particularly parents, for a communication tool that excludes online distractions, aiming to provide a safer environment for youth.
Ecotalk, established by Vince in 2018, collaborates with environmentalist Chris Packham to implement rewilding projects in Sussex and Devon.
