Lewis Hamilton’s Feedback Alters Brad Pitt F1 Movie

Published:

Toto Wolff recently shared how Lewis Hamilton candidly informed Brad Pitt that he was considered “too old” to realistically depict a Formula One driver competing for World Championships on screen. This direct exchange with the Hollywood star led to a significant revision of the movie script in progress, leaving Pitt somewhat unimpressed.

Initially, Pitt’s character, Sonny Hayes, was envisioned as an experienced racer challenging the top tier of the F1 world for a championship victory. However, in the revised script, Hayes makes a comeback to Grand Prix racing in his fifties, driving for the struggling fictional team APX GP alongside the emerging talent Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris.

The decision to alter the storyline came after a gathering with Wolff, Hamilton, and other key figures during the project’s early stages. Wolff reminisced about a memorable dinner where Pitt’s feedback prompted a significant shift in the character development.

The F1 film, on which Hamilton served as an executive producer, achieved remarkable success, impressing critics, generating excitement among new fans, and setting box office records with a staggering global revenue of £467 million ($628 million).

The positive reception extended to influential figures within the racing community, with attendees at the premiere in Monaco, including F1 drivers and team principals, expressing their approval of the film’s entertainment value and exceptional financial performance.

Formula 1 enthusiasts can catch all the live action, including practice sessions, qualifiers, and races, with Sky’s Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle, which currently offers a discounted introductory deal saving £336. This package not only grants access to Sky Sports but also includes approximately 100 TV channels and complimentary subscriptions to Netflix and Discovery+.
