Three individuals were swiftly taken to the hospital after a machete assault in a city center in the UK involving a group of men.
According to the Leicestershire Police, the incident occurred at 7:19 pm on Wednesday when men attempted to enter a building on Alexander Street in Leicester while brandishing machetes before fleeing the scene. In response, armed police officers arrived, and three injured individuals were hospitalized, with one in a serious condition, though not believed to be life-threatening.
Witnesses in the area reported hearing shouts of “armed police” as the situation unfolded, leading to road closures around Alexander Street.
A police spokesperson stated that a significant police presence was mobilized following reports of men with machetes causing injuries to three individuals. The men were observed entering a building with machetes before fleeing on foot, prompting the deployment of armed police for public safety.
Additional paramedics from the East Midlands Ambulance Service were also dispatched to assist the injured individuals. The police operation involved cordoning off nearby streets for a search, with some areas remaining restricted.
Detective Sergeant Vicki Hudson, from the police’s Complex Investigation team, emphasized the ongoing nature of the investigation, urging potential witnesses to come forward with information. The incident is believed to be a targeted attack related to a previous aggravated burglary, with police maintaining a presence in the area for community reassurance.
The incident occurred near student housing at The Arches on All Saints Road, where residents expressed shock and concern over the unexpected violence in the typically peaceful area.
