A man has been found guilty of first-degree murder for killing his pregnant girlfriend who refused to undergo an abortion. Donovan Faison was convicted after a short two-hour deliberation by the jury. The victim, 18-year-old Kaylin Fiengo, was discovered dead in a car with a gunshot wound on November 11. Investigations revealed that Kaylin was three months pregnant and had disagreements with Faison over her choice to continue the pregnancy.
Authorities in Seminole County, Florida, are pursuing the death penalty for Faison, with sentencing scheduled for Wednesday. Following Kaylin’s death, it was uncovered that she had gone to Coastline Park to meet someone she knew. Additionally, Kaylin, a mother of a 1-year-old boy, had been the subject of ongoing disputes with Faison.
Family members expressed relief at the verdict, with Kaylin’s aunt, Tatiana Fiengo, stating, “We’ve been waiting a long time for this. It doesn’t bring her back, but at least he’s not out hurting other people.” Statistics from the US reveal that one in five homicide victims are killed by intimate partners, with over half of female victims being harmed by current or former male partners. In 2023, Florida reported 1,361 homicides, resulting in a death rate of 6.5 per 100,000 individuals, while England and Wales recorded 590 homicide victims in the same period.
This tragic incident sheds light on the prevalence of intimate partner violence and the devastating impact it has on individuals and communities.
