A fire broke out in a shop in London, prompting the response of fifteen fire engines and approximately 100 firefighters. The London Fire Brigade reported that the fire affected a ground floor shop with residential flats above it. Local residents were advised to keep their windows and doors closed, and the nearby station was closed, causing significant travel disruptions.
A 25-meter cordon was established, and the public was urged to avoid the area. The cause of the fire is currently unknown. Firefighters are still working to extinguish a blaze that started in a shop and adjoining workshop in Forest Hill, leading to traffic disruptions and impacting passengers using Forest Hill station. Around 15 individuals were evacuated from nearby buildings, and no injuries have been reported so far.
As of 9:45 pm, parts of the ground floor shop and the first and second floors remain on fire, along with a single-story workshop at the rear. Station Commander Anthony Lewis mentioned that the operation is expected to be lengthy, with crews working throughout the night to fully put out the fire. Authorities advise people in the vicinity to keep windows and doors shut due to smoke, with a 25-meter cordon in place.
The ongoing incident has caused significant traffic disruptions in Forest Hill, particularly on the A205 South Circular Road, and has affected rail services passing through Forest Hill station. Southern Rail trains are not stopping at Forest Hill until further notice, with alternative transport arrangements in place. Investigations into the cause of the fire are underway.
