McDonald’s Loyalty Program Update Sparks Frustration

Published:

McDonald’s enthusiasts are expressing frustration following the announcement of a significant modification to its loyalty program. The popular fast-food chain is set to raise the points requirement for redeeming free items through MyMcDonald’s Rewards. Currently, customers need 5,500 points to claim items like a Big Mac, Double Fillet of Fish, Double Sausage, and Egg McMuffin, as well as Nine Chicken Nuggets. However, starting March 17, the redemption threshold will increase to 6,500 points, with customers earning 100 points for every £1 spent at McDonald’s.

The points needed for items such as a Medium Coffee or Small Fries will also see an increase from 1,500 points to 2,000 points. Furthermore, the points required for a regular McFlurry or an Apple Pie will rise from 2,500 points to 3,500, and for a Double Cheeseburger or a McChicken sandwich, the new threshold will be 5,000 points, up from 4,000 points.

In response to social media discussions, one fan expressed discontent, while another inquired about the start date to make redemptions before the changes take effect. A McDonald’s spokesperson informed The Sun that the adjustments in the loyalty program are a response to escalating food and supply expenses. They emphasized that while the points needed have been raised across all tiers, they have introduced several popular items for redemption for the first time, including Chicken Selects, Cheese sides, and a new Sausage Sandwich, providing customers with more choices.

The loyalty program alteration coincides with the launch of McDonald’s new menu, featuring the Surf N’ Turf burger, a unique offering in the UK consisting of two beef patties, a crispy white fish fillet patty, cheese, onions, pickles, mustard, and ketchup. Additionally, the new Chicken Cheeseburger, Espresso Milkshake, and Chilli Cheese Bites have been introduced to tantalize customers’ taste buds.
