Published:

A 38-year-old mother of three tragically lost her life after rescuing a stray dog that later turned aggressive and attacked her own pet.

Barbara Brewington was discovered by authorities in the yard of her residence in Bonnetsville, North Carolina on November 23. She had taken in a mixed breed stray dog six months prior, which suddenly became violent towards her smaller dog and then towards her as she intervened.

Despite the severe injuries sustained by Barbara, her pet survived the incident, while the aggressive stray dog was euthanized by a specialized animal control team at the scene.

Sampson County Sheriff Jimmy Thornton reported that Ms. Brewington was found with grave injuries outside her home around 6:30 pm, and despite efforts by first responders, she succumbed to her injuries.

According to Sheriff Thornton, Barbara was trying to separate the stray dog from her pet when the stray dog became overly aggressive and turned on her. She managed to save her own dog and bring it inside before collapsing.

Barbara, a married mother of three, worked as a dental assistant at Village Family Dental, as mentioned in her obituary. A GoFundMe page was created by her sister, Samantha, to support Barbara’s children, describing her as a loving and vibrant individual.

The fundraising campaign has already raised over $24,700 towards its $26,000 goal. Colleagues and friends have expressed their condolences and shared memories of Barbara, highlighting her joyful personality and dedication to her family.

Tributes continue to pour in for Barbara online, with heartfelt messages of support for her husband Bradley. Friends and well-wishers remember Barbara as a kind and beautiful person who will be deeply missed but forever cherished.
