Outspoken ex-Britain’s Got Talent judge Piers Morgan is a strong advocate for freedom of speech. Despite this, there have been instances where the former Daily Mirror editor may have been overly candid.
During a meeting with Donald Trump, Morgan learned that the US president had been briefed with a dossier containing all the negative remarks Morgan had made about him. Trump confronted Morgan, citing comments such as calling him a “mob boss” and suggesting he should be barred from running for office again.
Morgan suspected Nigel Farage, who had recently launched a rival show on GB News, of supplying the damaging information to Trump to sabotage the interview. In a bid to salvage the situation, Morgan quickly pivoted to praising Trump to ensure the interview proceeded smoothly.
Trump, known for his passion for golf, had reportedly scored a hole in one during a recent game. Morgan, having read an interview with golfing legend Ernie Els who had played with Trump, decided to focus on this positive aspect rather than Trump’s political controversies.
By highlighting Trump’s golfing achievement, Morgan successfully shifted the tone of the interview and gained Trump’s cooperation. However, Morgan did not forget Farage’s alleged betrayal, labeling him a “treacherous weasel” for undermining the interview.
Despite offering congratulations to Farage for his previous interview with Trump, Morgan felt betrayed when Farage, upon returning to London, allegedly attempted to sabotage Morgan’s interview with Trump.
