An investigation has been initiated by the police following a tragic incident where a pedestrian was struck and killed by a council road sweeper. A 63-year-old man was apprehended on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the collision that occurred shortly before 2:15 pm yesterday. He was subsequently released pending further inquiries.
The victim, a man in his 80s, was swiftly transported to the hospital, but despite the efforts of medical professionals, he succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased a few hours later.
The East Midlands Ambulance Service alerted Leicester Police following the occurrence on Holy Bones in Leicester the previous day.
Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit of the police force are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In the course of their investigation, authorities are seeking to interview any witnesses to the incident or individuals who may possess pertinent information.
Detective Sergeant Mike Steer stated, “We are diligently working to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the collision, following the tragic news of the man’s passing in the hospital last night.”
“The vehicle involved was identified as a Leicester City Council road sweeper. We are collaborating with the council in this inquiry.”

In a separate incident, the mother of a four-year-old boy who tragically lost his life after being struck by a bus near an A&E entrance on August 7 is seeking to have him laid to rest in their garden. Zaahir Jan Feizi, from Canterbury, tragically could not be revived despite efforts to save him. His mother, Azaria Green, is endeavoring to raise funds to purchase their rented home so that she can have Zaahir buried in their garden.
Azaria, who currently resides an hour’s walk away from the cemetery where Zaahir is interred, believes that having his resting place in their own garden would aid her grieving process.
She expressed, “Having him at home with us would provide solace, as we could remain together. Having him in the garden would be beneficial for my mental well-being, which has significantly deteriorated.”
