Putin’s “Poseidon” Nuclear Torpedo Test Alarms World

Published:

Vladimir Putin has conducted a successful test of a nuclear torpedo with the capability to render extensive coastlines uninhabitable, which he hailed as a major achievement. This new weapon, similar to those in the nuclear arsenals of the US and UK, can trigger radioactive tsunamis, posing a threat to coastal areas. Putin expressed his satisfaction, stating that the test involved launching the torpedo from a carrier submarine, along with the nuclear power unit, marking a significant milestone.

Named Poseidon, the torpedo’s power surpasses that of the Russian-developed Sarmat intercontinental missile, also known as the SS-X-29 or Satan II. Putin emphasized the immense strength of Poseidon compared to other weapons in Russia’s arsenal. This test follows a recent demonstration of another experimental cruise missile, dubbed “Flying Chernobyl,” powered by a nuclear reactor and capable of indefinite range travel, as confirmed by Moscow’s top general, General Valery Gerasimov.

The cruise missile, known as Burevestnik in Russia and codenamed “Skyfall” by NATO, possesses advanced capabilities in circumventing missile and air defense systems, as stated by General Gerasimov. The successful test was interpreted as a strategic message, particularly in response to the breakdown of plans for a meeting between Putin and Donald Trump regarding the conflict in Ukraine.

In reaction to the Russian tests, President Trump mentioned the presence of a US nuclear submarine near Russian waters, downplaying the significance of the Russian military advancements. Trump emphasized the need for Putin to focus on ending the prolonged conflict in Ukraine rather than engaging in missile testing activities.
