An animal shelter volunteer received praise for rescuing a three-week-old kitten that was seemingly rejected by its mother and littermates. The mother cat, Paisley, and her kittens were brought to the shelter, where Kelsey, a staff member, took over feeding duties. Among the kittens were tabbies Prim and Pru, who displayed signs of a neurological issue affecting their coordination.
After Paisley was returned to her owners, the kittens remained under care at the shelter and adapted well to their new environment. Prim, in addition to her neurological condition, also had an eye ailment, but that did not deter her from thriving, as observed by Kelsey.
Kelsey mentioned that despite Prim’s challenges, she and her siblings quickly learned to feed themselves within a day of arriving at the shelter. Although initially slower in development, Prim caught up with her siblings as they all transitioned to solid food. Despite being smaller, Prim’s determination and resilience shone through, showcasing her ability to overcome obstacles.
Prim’s progress impressed Kelsey, who noted that Prim is active, playful, and curious like any other kitten. Prim even took a liking to a dog named Fletcher at the shelter. Kelsey described Prim as a spirited kitten who enjoys exploring and interacting with people.
In a recent Instagram post by the shelter in Indianapolis, it was mentioned that Prim is steadily gaining weight in preparation for surgery. The post highlighted that Prim will require a home with someone willing to care for a visually impaired kitten. The shelter plans to conduct a neurological exam before Prim becomes available for adoption to ensure she receives proper care.
The shelter emphasized that despite Prim’s visual impairment, she is capable of most activities and will be given the opportunity to explore more areas of the house to assess her adaptability.
