This innovative collection includes leggings, bodysuits, and tops that are embedded with germs, priced between £150 and £180 each. The creators assert that these garments aid in restoring the skin’s protective barrier and natural radiance.
The unconventional line, named Carewear by Paris-based brand Coperni and Swiss biotech specialists, recently debuted in stores. Each gram of the stretchy fabric contains approximately 140,000 live, beneficial bacteria cells that gradually penetrate the skin upon wearing. Additionally, the clothing boasts durability, with the active components designed to endure up to 40 washes.
The concept for Carewear emerged from the vision of Coperni’s founders, Arnaud Vaillant and Sébastien Meyer, who aimed to develop clothing that not only dresses but also nurtures the wearer. They emphasized the significance of considering the skin as a living organ and envisioned garments as supportive companions promoting wellness and self-care.
The materials underwent meticulous design to ensure comfort without compromising quality, followed by dermatological testing on human skin. This initiative aligns with Coperni’s history of avant-garde creations, such as the Spring Summer 2023 show featuring a groundbreaking collaboration with Fabrican, where Bella Hadid appeared naked before being clad in a sprayed-on white outfit.
In another bold move, the brand’s Fall Winter 2023 presentation included robot dogs assisting models backstage, exploring the fusion of technology and humanity inspired by a classic fable. Moreover, the show showcased handbags crafted from a 55,000-year-old lunar meteorite and collaborations with innovative brands like HEVƎN for unique glass bags.
Noteworthy personalities like Gigi Hadid, Billie Eilish, and Kylie Jenner have been spotted wearing Coperni’s designs, along with Kim Kardashian’s Skims underwear line known for its boundary-pushing creations. This eclectic mix of celebrities endorsing the brand’s collections reflects its influence on contemporary fashion trends.
