Rock Icon Sass Jordan Dies at 65

Renowned rock singer Sass Jordan, who hailed from Montreal and enjoyed a music career spanning almost four decades, passed away at the age of 65. The news was confirmed by family spokesperson Eric Alper, who stated that Jordan passed away on Friday in the presence of her loved ones. The cause of her death has not been disclosed.

Described as an incomparable force of nature and a bright source of joy, Jordan achieved significant success in her music career. Her debut album, “Tell Somebody,” was released in 1988, earning her the Juno Award for the most promising female vocalist in 1989. Her second album, “Racine,” released in 1992, featured popular tracks like “Make You a Believer.”

Throughout her career, Jordan received multiple Juno Award nominations for best female vocalist and served as a judge on all six seasons of the reality TV show “Canadian Idol.” Born in Birmingham, England, on December 23, 1960, she was raised in Montreal.

Geoff Kulawick, the former president of Stony Plain Records, praised Jordan as a courageous and talented artist. She collaborated with her husband Derek Sharp on her 2020 album, “Rebel Moon Blues,” and her 2022 album, “Bitches Blues,” while signed with Stony Plains.

Kulawick, a long-time admirer of Jordan’s work, emphasized her exceptional vocal abilities and emotional connection with audiences, which garnered her a devoted fan base. Reflecting on their friendship, Canadian producer and songwriter Derek Downham recalled fond memories of Jordan’s vibrant personality and their shared musical experiences.

As one of the few female figures in the rock music scene during her early career, Jordan played a pivotal role in paving the way for other women in a predominantly male-dominated industry. Her legacy as a trailblazer and her unwavering passion for music continue to inspire aspiring performers.
