Two individuals lost their lives in a tragic incident when they were trapped under a large glass panel that they were unloading from a truck at a football ground. The victims, Yasir Ali and Muhammad Zafar, were fatally injured while working to remove the glass from a vehicle at Hitchin Football Club in Hertfordshire. Another worker who was with them at the time sustained severe injuries and is currently hospitalized, facing the possibility of amputation.
Yasir Ali, 34, from Luton, and Muhammad Zafar, 33, from Dunstable, were international students studying at the University of Hertfordshire, originally from Pakistan. The emergency services responded to distress calls reporting the incident where the two men were trapped under the glass panel around 2pm on Saturday, September 6. Despite rescue efforts, both Ali and Zafar succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
Hitchin FC denied employing the three men, raising questions about how they came to be working in the area and for whom. The car park, jointly owned by Hitchin FC and the Cow Commoner’s Trust, was cordoned off for investigation purposes following the tragic event. The bodies of the deceased individuals will be released by the coroner for burial arrangements in either Luton or Pakistan.
Friends and acquaintances expressed their deep sorrow over the loss of Yasir Ali and his friend, emphasizing their thoughts and prayers for the families during this difficult time. Investigations by the authorities are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Councillor Ian Allen highlighted that many unanswered questions persist regarding the tragic events.
