A truck driver was captured on video allegedly watching the news on his mobile phone while driving on a busy motorway. The incident, involving an XDP lorry, occurred near J22 for Winwick Interchange on the M6 at approximately 7:25 am on Tuesday. A passerby in another vehicle filmed a quick video showing a mobile phone placed on the dashboard in front of the driver.
The footage seemed to depict the driver watching the news screen while traveling at speed on the motorway. XDP, a UK-based freight and parcel carrier, is the company associated with the lorry. The short video was captioned with disbelief at the driver’s actions during the morning rush hour on the M6 near Manchester.
The Manchester Evening News reported the incident, with the individual recording the video commenting on the driver’s casual behavior of watching the news while operating the truck. XDP responded to the allegations, stating they take such incidents very seriously and have elevated the matter to their Operations Team for immediate review.
In a separate incident in August, a lorry crossed the central reservation of the M5 and drove in the wrong direction on the highway, narrowly avoiding a high-value Porsche. Peter Stone, 55, narrowly dodged the oncoming lorry between junction 28 and junction 29 while driving northbound on the right-hand lane. The quick maneuver prevented a potential fatal collision as the lorry driver continued in the wrong direction on the busy road.
Peter, from Reading, described the sudden event as unexpected, with only seconds to react and avoid the tipper truck. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported following the incident, with authorities responding promptly to the scene. The motorway was temporarily closed in both directions, reopening after about an hour to resume normal traffic flow.
