The fee for a TV licence is increasing once more, but if you no longer require one, you may qualify for a refund. Currently priced at £174.50 per year, the TV licence fee will rise to £180 starting in April. Possessing a TV licence is necessary for watching or recording live TV or accessing content, live or catch-up, on BBC iPlayer.
If your viewing habits only involve catch-up shows from non-BBC iPlayer streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, ITVX, Disney Plus, YouTube, All 4, or My5, then a TV licence is not required. However, if you watch live programs through these platforms, a TV licence is necessary. Failure to comply could result in fines of up to £1,000.
Should you no longer need your TV licence before it expires, you may be eligible for a refund with at least one month remaining on it. Additionally, refunds are available for those eligible for concessions such as over 75 or blind. Non-compliance with TV licence requirements could lead to fines of up to £1,000.
