“UK Men’s Plus-Size Fashion Brand Big Boys Shuts Down”

Published:

A men’s fashion brand based in the UK has shut down operations after entering administration. Great Clothing Ltd, trading as Big Boys, specialized in offering plus-size clothing for men ranging from sizes 2XL to 10XL. Situated in Leeds, the retailer employed an average of 12 staff members during the year 2025.

Chris Brooksbank from CB Business Recovery Ltd has been designated as the administrator. A statement on the Big Boys website explained that despite efforts to address financial challenges, the company could not sustain its operations. An insolvency practice has been engaged to oversee the company’s affairs, with a licensed Insolvency Practitioner soon to be appointed as the administrator.

In other retail developments, River Island is set to close a minimum of 27 stores this month as part of a restructuring plan. Several branches, including those in Brighton, Edinburgh Princes Street, Great Yarmouth, and Stockton-on-Tees, have already ceased operations. Additional branches, such as those in Norwich, Norfolk, and Workington, Cumbria, are also on the closure list, pending confirmation of closure dates.

Furthermore, River Island plans to reduce rents at 71 other stores as part of its restructuring efforts. The fashion chain had 223 stores across the UK and Ireland at the time its rescue plan was reviewed in court in August.

Poundland is also undergoing changes, with 12 stores set to close in January following approval from the High Court. The discount retailer had shut down 57 stores by the end of the previous September after being acquired by investment firm Gordon Brothers for a nominal fee. Poundland, which had 800 branches last summer, anticipates reducing the number of stores to around 650-700 through closures and lease expirations.

As part of its revamp, Poundland is introducing a new pricing structure of £1, £2, and £3 in its UK stores. Approximately 60% of grocery items will be priced at £1, with 20% at £2 and 20% at £3 under the new scheme. Additionally, Poundland has updated its website to offer product browsing only, discontinuing online purchasing options.
