“US Lawmakers Pressure Prince Andrew to Testify on Epstein Connection”

Published:

US lawmakers have criticized Andrew Mountbatten Windsor for remaining silent during an investigation into his connection with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. They are urging the former prince to testify in the US about his close relationship with Epstein as part of a broader probe into Epstein’s criminal activities. This pressure has led to Andrew being stripped of all his royal and military titles.

The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform requested Andrew to participate in a “transcribed interview,” but he has denied all accusations against him. Despite a letter from 16 congress members setting a deadline for a response by November 20, Andrew allegedly did not meet this deadline.

Democratic members Robert Garcia and Suhas Subramanyam criticized Andrew’s silence, indicating that it raises concerns given the allegations and testimonies involved. The committee lacks the authority to compel non-US citizens or foreign nationals outside the US to testify, so Andrew was not legally obligated to respond.

In response, the lawmakers emphasized their commitment to pursuing justice for the victims, with or without Andrew’s cooperation. The pressure on Andrew intensified following the release of Virginia Giuffre’s posthumous memoir, in which she accused him of sexual misconduct when she was 17. Before the book’s publication, Andrew renounced his Duke of York title.

In a significant move, King Charles announced the removal of Andrew’s royal titles and privileges, including his eviction from the Royal Lodge mansion. Donald Trump also faced scrutiny for his relationship with Epstein but eventually signed legislation allowing the release of the Epstein files after pressure from Congress and the public.

Following a 427-1 House vote and unanimous Senate endorsement, Trump agreed to release the Department of Justice documents related to Epstein. This decision came after months of delay and resistance, highlighting the growing demand for transparency and accountability in the case.
