“Vehicle Fire Causes Massive Traffic Delays on UK Motorways”

Published:

A collision and vehicle fire have caused significant traffic disruptions on two major motorways in the UK. Commuters are facing lengthy queues stretching over six miles, potentially resulting in an hour of delay.

The incident forced the closure of the northbound lanes of the M6 motorway between Junction 3 for Nuneaton and Junction 3a for the M42 in Warwickshire. Fortunately, all lanes have now been reopened, according to National Highways West Midlands.

Images captured at the scene depict emergency responders attending to the crash site, with debris scattered along the motorway following the early morning incident. National Highways attributed the collision to a piece of debris on the road.

Traffic monitoring platform Inrix has advised drivers to anticipate prolonged delays. Initially, three lanes were shut down due to the crash and fire, though some have since been cleared, leaving only one lane closed near Corley Services on the M6.

Inrix also reported that one lane remains closed following the morning’s collision, even though three lanes have been reopened after an initial full closure. Despite the partial reopening, heavy congestion continues to affect the area.

The collision and car fire have led to substantial traffic congestion on both the M6 and M42 motorways, prompting National Highways to caution drivers about potential hour-long delays. The closure spans the section of the M6 between Junction 3 and Junction 3a for the M42, as per National Highways’ announcement.
