“Wetherspoon to Open New University Pub at Birmingham”

Published:

Wetherspoon has revealed intentions to launch a new university pub. The renowned pub chain will oversee Joe’s at the University of Birmingham in a fresh collaboration. Named after the University’s iconic clock tower, Joe’s will remain under the management of the Guild of Students.

Set to debut in Easter 2026 after a thorough renovation, the new venue will offer Wetherspoon’s complete food and beverage lineup, including special weekly deals like the Thursday Curry Club. Wetherspoon, with close to 800 pubs nationwide, inaugurated its initial university pub at Hull University back in 2022.

John Hutson, Wetherspoon’s CEO, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership with the Guild of Students and the prospects for Joe’s Bar. Antonia Listrat, President of the University of Birmingham Guild of Students, highlighted the benefits for students in terms of affordable dining options and increased job opportunities within the bar.

The collaboration aims to bolster commercial efforts, channeling profits back into supporting student activities and enhancing the overall student experience. Wetherspoon plans to unveil six additional pubs by mid-January as part of its expansion strategy.

In other news, Wetherspoon recently introduced its Christmas menu, featuring the popular turkey dinner option. The festive feast comprises turkey breast slices, stuffing, roasted vegetables, pigs-in-blankets, and traditional accompaniments. Prices start at £13.99 with a soft drink or £15.52 with an alcoholic beverage, slightly higher than last year’s rates.

The Christmas menu will be on offer until December 31. Despite increased sales and profits, Wetherspoon’s chairman, Tim Martin, affirmed the company’s commitment to minimizing price hikes amidst industry challenges. Martin emphasized the impact of tax adjustments on pricing but assured efforts to maintain pricing stability.
