This set a new record for the most wins by a comedy series in a single year, surpassing the previous record held by The Studio.
Although The Pitt led the nominations with 25 nods, including best drama series, it was Widow’s Bay that stole the show with its impressive wins. Noah Wyle from The Pitt won outstanding lead actor in a drama series, while Tasks‘ Tom Pelphrey took home the best supporting actor award. The best supporting actress in a comedy category went to The Diplomat‘s Allison Janney, causing a surprise upset.
The evening also saw heartfelt moments, such as Sally Field expressing gratitude to Canada for her win and an emotional tribute to the late Catherine O’Hara. Michael J. Fox was honored with the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award for his work in raising awareness about Parkinson’s disease.
In the comedy categories, Hacks and Pluribus were strong contenders, with Jean Smart winning best actress in a comedy for Hacks and Rhea Seehorn receiving her first Emmy for outstanding lead actress in a drama series for Pluribus. The show DTF St. Louis won several awards in the limited series categories, while The Beast in Me and The Studio also secured wins.
In the variety series category, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert emerged victorious, with Colbert humorously thanking his old writers for their contributions. Overall, the night was a mix of expected wins and surprising outcomes, showcasing both established favorites and new talent in the industry.
