Horrifying video footage captured the tragic moment when a lorry skidded on a wet road, collided with a car, and trapped two individuals inside.
The fatal incident occurred on the DN2/E85 road section between the Cristești and Drăgușeni communes in Iași County, northeast Romania. The car’s driver, aged 42, and his 39-year-old passenger lost their lives in the crash. The lorry’s trailer swerved, blocked both lanes, and ultimately crushed the car as the driver attempted to stop.
Emergency responders, including 13 firefighters, deployed specialized extraction equipment, a SMURD ambulance, and teams from the Suceava and Iași County Ambulance Services to the scene, as reported by Romanian TV channel Digi24.
According to authorities, there were four individuals involved in the accident. The 54-year-old lorry driver was tested for alcohol and found to be sober. Despite being examined by medical personnel, he declined hospitalization.
The Iași County Police Inspectorate released a statement confirming the sequence of events leading to the collision, involving the lorry driver from Bistrița-Năsăud County losing control of the vehicle and colliding with the car driven by the Suceava County resident.
A criminal investigation for manslaughter has been initiated, with ongoing efforts to establish the underlying causes and details of the tragic crash.
