Anthony Joshua is set to keep his fans in suspense regarding his comeback to the boxing ring until just 48 hours before the fight commences.
The former heavyweight champion has not stepped into the ring since suffering a devastating knockout defeat by Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium last September. Joshua aims to have a warm-up bout before pursuing a highly-anticipated showdown with fellow British boxer Tyson Fury in the upcoming year. It is possible that Joshua may feature in an undercard fight just before Christmas, with short notice.
Promoter Eddie Hearn mentioned, “We will finalize his next fight decision this week. If the fight takes place this year, details might be kept under wraps until fight week. We are in talks with potential opponents for a warm-up fight, intending for a relaxed approach where Joshua can weigh in and fight on the same week.”
Hearn also expressed interest in a potential clash between Joshua and YouTuber Jake Paul, although emphasizing that no formal offer has been made. However, he ruled out Joshua being a replacement opponent for Paul’s upcoming bout, stating, “A fight against Jake Paul could be intriguing, but it’s unlikely at this point.”
In other boxing news, the rematch between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn is scheduled for Saturday, November 15, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Fans can catch the fight on DAZN PPV for £24.99 or view it for free with a DAZN Ultimate subscription.
Joshua is currently in search of a new coaching team following his collaboration with trainer Ben Davison for his last three fights. Recently, the Olympic gold medalist visited Oleksandr Usyk’s training camp in Spain as he gears up for the next phase of his boxing career.
Having been mentored by various renowned trainers in the past, including Tony Sims, Rob McCracken, Robert Garcia, and Derrick James, Joshua has now ventured into Fury’s former training camp, seeking a fresh perspective and guidance for his future fights.
