Norris and Piastri Disqualified in Las Vegas Upset

Published:

Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have spoken out following their disqualification from the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Norris secured second place behind Max Verstappen, the race winner, while Piastri finished fourth. Unfortunately, both drivers’ cars did not pass the technical inspections after the race due to excessive skid-block wear.

The FIA confirmed that the disqualification was a result of the skid-block wear issue, nullifying their race results and shaking up the championship standings with only two races remaining. Norris now leads Piastri and Verstappen by 24 points heading into the upcoming race in Qatar and the season finale in Abu Dhabi.

After the race, Norris expressed his disappointment over the situation, acknowledging the need to focus on the upcoming races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi. Piastri also expressed frustration at missing out on points due to the disqualification but emphasized the importance of regrouping for the final two rounds.

McLaren issued an apology to Norris and Piastri for the technical breach that led to their disqualification. The team explained that both cars experienced unexpected issues during the race, resulting in the violation of the Technical Regulations. Despite the setback, McLaren remains committed to performing well in the remaining races of the season.

FIA scrutineers discovered that the planks beneath the McLaren cars were below the required minimum thickness of 9mm, indicating a potential breach in ride height regulations. This discovery led to the disqualification of both cars from the final race classification.
