Firefighter father discovers son as victim of tragic crash

Published:

A tragic incident unfolded when a firefighter responded to a car crash only to discover that the victim was his own son. The heartbreaking event took place in Italy, on the Baldu-L’Agnata road in Sardinia. Omar Masia, 25, was one of five individuals in a BMW that veered off Baldu Bridge, crashing through the railings before landing upside down in a dry riverbed. Omar, seated in the back, was fatally injured as the roof collapsed, with his father, Massimiliano Masia, being among the first to find him.

The crash survivors managed to alert emergency services, but due to the remote location, it took time for help to arrive. Massimiliano, also a firefighter, rushed to the scene upon hearing about the accident through the radio. Despite recognizing some of his son’s friends, he had to witness the unsuccessful efforts to save Omar. The driver, who was slightly over the legal alcohol limit, faces charges of causing death by dangerous driving, prompting investigations into the road’s condition and nearby bridges.

Antonio Giordano of the Sassari Fire Brigade expressed the unimaginable pain felt by Mr. Masia, stating that the tragedy of losing his son in an accident he responded to is beyond comprehension. The loss has deeply affected the community, highlighting the risks and emotional toll faced by first responders in such harrowing situations.
