Slow-Moving Motorist on M6 Issued Citation

Published:

A motorist was stopped by authorities and issued a citation for violating a regulation they were likely unaware of while driving on the M6 motorway.

The surprised individual was pulled over in Warwickshire and given the ticket after being warned by police, who noted an increasing number of motorists driving in a similar manner on the motorway. According to law enforcement officers, the driver was moving too slowly at speeds between 55mph and 60mph, and was also hogging the middle lane.

Warwickshire Police described the behavior as “substandard driving” and expressed concern over the growing trend of drivers behaving in this manner, seemingly oblivious to the associated risks. In a statement on Facebook, the police force stated: “Officers from A Unit OPU observed a driver on the M6 Northbound in the middle lane driving at speeds of 55-60mph without any slower-moving vehicles or obstacles in the left lane.”

“The driver was escorted off the motorway and cited for failing to demonstrate reasonable consideration for other road users – potentially leading to enrollment in a driver improvement course, which the driver will be responsible for. Authorities are noticing an increasing number of individuals driving in a similar fashion, seemingly ignorant of the hazards it presents.”

“Other motorists expect that being in the overtaking lane means traveling at the speed limit for that road and vehicle, and must consequently pass on the right unnecessarily.”

“While the speed limit serves as a maximum allowance and not a goal or a minimum, it is considered poor driving etiquette to remain in the overtaking lane well below that limit in the absence of slower traffic on the left or other impediments.”

“Unless overtaking or avoiding obstacles, it is advised to keep left, as failing to do so may result in up to 3 points on your driving license and a £100 fine.”
