Published:

A recent study revealed that 30% of Brits are more knowledgeable about Donald Trump than Prince Charles. The survey, conducted with 2,000 adults, showed that many people are as familiar with American pop culture as they are with their own. Interestingly, 40% of the information consumed daily by participants is from the US, with a preference for Taylor Swift’s music over Dua Lipa’s by 23%.

Furthermore, nearly 10% of respondents know more about the romantic lives of actors Zendaya and Tom Holland than about the Royal family. This percentage increases to 29% among individuals aged 18 to 24, with 34% of this age group being more versed in the Kardashians than in the British soap opera EastEnders.

According to a representative from Lottoland.co.uk, which commissioned the survey to coincide with its US £520 million Powerball draw, there is a wealth of engaging US culture readily available for consumption. They emphasized the significant influence of American culture across various aspects such as TV, film, music, food, and even politics.

The research also indicated that 18% of the participants watch more American TV shows than British options, particularly favoring genres like drama, comedy, and crime. In terms of music from the States, pop, rock, and country genres are the most popular, with 88% of individuals enjoying some form of American culture in their British lives.

Apart from TV and music, Americans food (37%), books (24%), and sports (17%) are also well-received by Brits. A portion of the population even celebrates American traditions like Thanksgiving (15%) and Independence Day on the 4th of July (10%).

Notably, Netflix, Hollywood blockbusters, and Coca-Cola were voted as the best American exports, closely followed by Rock and Roll, Disneyland, and instant coffee. A spokesperson from Lottoland.co.uk expressed appreciation for the cultural exchange between nations, highlighting the significant contributions of the US to global culture through platforms like Netflix, Hollywood films, and iconic brands like Coca-Cola.
